September 11th, 2001: Ten years on

September 11th, 2001. I had been in the UK for a week. I was struggling with what I now know to be hayfever. Turned on the TV, and watched with horror as everyone was trying to make sense of what was happening. And then, on live TV, I saw Flight 175 fly into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. A few hours later, I came out of my daze, I was in total shock. The world has not been the same since that horrible day.

The next day, I left the house and had a look at the front pages of the papers. This headline, this photo will be in my memory until the day I die. It was my first introduction to sensational tabloid headlines, but no one knew how many had died. But the picture of someone jumping to their death, because they decided they would not burn to death. I cannot imagine having to take such a terrible decision.

To those that died that day, may your souls rest in peace. And to all who have died in subsequent wars, I pray that you have not died in vain, that one day, the human race can put our differences aside, and live side by side in peace and harmony.

So much has changed since that day. Yet so much has remained the same.
