Chinese math problem, a lot easier than you would first think…..

Remember the Chinese math problem?

The solution has been published on the BBC site, and while I never did take the time out to try and solve it, the final solution is a lot simpler than it looked. Reminds me of one of my lecturers at Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Adeniran, who designed problems to look really hard, but if you were not fazed, and took your time to look at it, and understood the underlying principles, then you could solve it.

Anyway, enough of my rant, here is the solution:

Check out the story on BBC News here.

  1. Reminds me of my current Calclulus II teacher. Almost all the definite integrals we do nowadays come out ugly then when you're done your answer comes out as 0.

  2. I think the approach to maths is largely based on where and how you learned it in the first place. My first week of school in the US was painful and the only reason I did not quit was the huge tuition which I had already paid. coming from a Nigerian background where things were learned by rote. It was a bit harder to think. I was one of the edgier students in my class in UI. LOL. Note I did not say smarter.

  3. Liverpool for the cup! Well done! :D
Congrats Boso, backing your boys in the final!
