What the?

Telewest have an office less than 10 minutes walk from my house. From what I've heard, this is where they run all their network services from.

However, they don't provide services to my area? Does that make sense?

  2. I thought it was a joke myself, till I called them and asked them, and they confirmed that there was no coverage for our area, and no plans to cover the area soon.

  3. Its not a main branch or their head office. I work at their head office! The reason they don't got up some streets is its not economic. You try and get the maximum number of properties/potential customers per metre of fibre laid. So, they tend to opt for areas with lots of properties per m2 eg. housing blocks. In order to get a franchise in an area you only have to penetrate a certain number of customers, not the entire customer base in a franchise area. It is was they went bust laying the amount of fibre they did. The only way BT had enough money to connect to every property was because they were government funded.

  4. Katherine, I stand corrected !! I thought it was their network hub or something, I read that somewhere on the internet.

    The house has some old cabling from 'The Cable Company', which I thought has now been incorporated into Telewest. My landlord said that there was cable in the house as recently as 2 years ago, but everywhere I've looked, including uswitch.com and other sites, I can't seem to find any cable providers for the area.

  6. I hope I didn't write in an offensive manner, that wasn't my intention. I'd ask you to give me your postcode so I can help you find a good package but this being the web I wouldn't put that up online. If I can help in any further way let me know. The industry is very difficult to keep track of at the moment due to all the consolidations taking place and product pricing changes so I would not be surprised if you were confused as a customer, it baffles me and its my job to understand this stuff.
