Liverpool - Contract talks……good and bad

Stevie Gerrard, one of the graduates of Liverpool Academy has recently signed a 2 year extension to his contract, keeping him at the club till 2007. His recent appointment as the team captain may have persuaded the lifelong Liverpool fan to stay at the club. Liverpool manager, Gerard Houllier today spoke of his excitement at the new deal. He has even tipped the England star to one day win the much-coveted Baloon D'or award. (European Footballer of the Year) He has given his first interview to Liverpool's official website. Read the BBC report on this here. 'Captain Fantastic' says he signed for Liverpool because he can fufil his ambitions at the club, and is looking forward to Champions League football at Anfield next season.

However, what the Liverpool website is quiet about is the recent comments made by Micheal Owen, hinting that he may leave the club to fufill his ambitions elsewhere. Owen's dad played football for Liverpool's bitter rivals Everton, and he is one of a long line of Everton supporters to play for the mighty reds (Stevie Mcmanaman is another). Why ???????

Will he go, or will he stay? Well, Owen may be important to Liverpool, but with all this talk, and rumours of Real Madrid or Chelsea ready to pay for him, it looks as if he is indeed leaving. Liverpool will survive without Owen. After all, he's almost always injured anyway !! But we would prefer he stayed, so PLEASE OWEN DON'T GO !!!
